Dear students of mine,

I would expect you to have completed your SRQ assignment on 'Freedom In Violence' by the time you read this message.

Please submit your work on my iVLE workbin entitled 'SRQ - Freedom In Violence' by Tue 30 June 2009.

DAY 2 SUBJECT 2 RECOMMENDED TIME: 0930-1030 h

The following lesson serves to enhance your understanding/ revision of our Term 2 theme on 'Human Rights' as well as gauges your ability
to assess what a good SRQ answer entails.

1. Please read the following newspaper articles and surf the recommended sites on freedom of speech listed at the end of the articles to get a
better understanding of the issues raised.

2. You should attempt to explore, evaluate and critique the writers' opinions by using Model A {my favourite :)} Model B {students' favourite}
Model C {Dummies' Guide} or Model D {your self-devised template}.

3. Now, read the following sample answers carefully.

4. Decide on a score for each and explain the reasons for your assessment.

[Please record your scores and comments by clicking on the DISCUSSION button. You may include your planning template as well but
this is optional. I am still waiting with bated breath for a Model D.]

5. Finally, could you capture in the space below your opinion on whether the work assigned here is too much/ little/ simple/ difficult/ etc. Do not
merely state a point without any elaboration. You may also include technical problems or other related issues.

Opinions:
Jun Yi - Mdm Loke, I think the work assigned today is just right for the 1 hour allocated to this lesson. We get to read the articles, as well as comment on some sample answers. These answers are also carefully selected to ensure that there is a mix of good and bad answers, rather than choosing only 4 good articles. If only good answers were chosen, we would not be able to learn about the mistakes that some people would commit when writing their arguments, as some of these mistakes are also common mistakes which we usually make.

Zhongyang - Mdm Loke, I agree with Jun Yi that the workload for today was sufficient. This activity also allowed us to recognise the traits of a good essay, as well as how to avoid making the mistakes that were made in the not-so-good essays.
